Annina Schmid

Neurogenic Pain Specialist

Annina is a Consultant Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and an Associate Professor in Neuroscience at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at The University of Oxford. She obtained her Physiotherapy undergraduate training in Switzerland and completed her specialisation in Musculoskeletal Therapy with a Masters degree from Curtin University in Australia and a PhD in Neuroscience from The University of Queensland in Australia. Annina has extensive clinical experience in the area of musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, having worked in University Hospitals and private practices in the UK, Switzerland and Australia. Annina’s main interest both clinically and scientifically concerns the diagnosis and management of patients with nerve related pain. She specialises in the assessment of complex pain conditions and the management of patients with a range of nerve disorders including sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome or cervical radicular pain caused by an irritation of the nerve roots in the neck. Annina’s practice is guided by a strong patient centred approach and an extensive scientific knowledge base, to which she and her team at Oxford University contribute. Annina teaches Physiotherapists internationally on the topic of nerve-related pain and is regularly invited to present her scientific work at national and international conferences. In her spare time, Annina loves dancing Argentine Tango and discovering the wonders of nature by foot or while diving.
