Raynaud’s Awareness

February is Raynaud’s Awareness month and so we wanted to highlight some information regarding this phenomenon.

Raynaud’s is where your blood stops flowing properly to your fingers and toes. This effect on your blood circulation occurs when people are cold, anxious or stressed. Symptoms can include a change in finger and toes colour, pain, numbness or pins and needles.

Raynaud’s is common and does not usually cause severe problems, however, sometimes it can be a sign of a more serious condition and, therefore it is worth discussing your symptoms with a GP.

If you have Raynaud’s do consider the following:

  • keeping your home warm
  • wearing warm clothes during cold weather, especially on your hands and feet
  • try to avoid sudden changes in temperature
  • exercise regularly to help improve circulation
  • try breathing exercises or yoga to help you relax
  • eating a healthy, balanced diet.
